Some companies mainly communicate through their blog. Much like a journal, ours is simply a place for us to collect our thoughts on business and marketing and share them with you (and hopefully give you an indication of how we think). As our clients come first you probably won’t see a new entry here every day, but we hope you come back and join the conversation – or you can sign-up for our RSS feed if it suits you more.

At Long Last

BY JAMES ROBERTS

We’ve made it. At long last we've managed to get around to breathing some life into our own site. Is it finished? Certainly not. A case of “Cobblers’ children”? Possibly. Doing lots of great work for our clients instead? Definitely.

Today, great client service isn’t a competitive advantage - it’s a prerequisite for long-term survival. So not responding to a client request quite as quickly as normal because you’re thinking about your business can feel a little odd. But if an organisation is to grow, we all need to take a step back on a regular basis to make sure we’re going in the right direction. If we don’t, there’s a risk that with our heads down, we won’t see the opportunities around us. So we stopped thinking about clients for a moment (sorry) and fixed a few of our own bits. Excuses aside, sorting out some of our own communications has been a valuable reminder of what our clients face when we ask them to stop running their businesses for five minutes and think about growing them.

So aside from a refreshed site, what did we get out of it? It can probably be summed up in one word – empathy. It’s reinforced what it was like to be in-house marketers, with all the issues that it brings; juggling time, budgetary constraints, revenue generative work, admin and general ‘stuff’ that stops you focusing. It’s also reinforced our belief in the value we bring to clients by providing truly impartial guidance, big thinking and rolling-up-our-shirt-sleeves-and-just-delivering-the-work capacity.

Anyway, that’s the navel-gazing over.

From here on, we’re going to focus on things from outside of the Wall To Wall Sunshine world – we advise our clients to talk about their clients rather than droning on about themselves so we’re going to practice what we preach (well, we’ll try to). Everything will still have a heavy marketing angle, but we’re aiming to create a blog that has impact in other business areas, cuts through some of the hyperbole, and offers practical business growth ideas. With this in mind, we’d love you to jump into the comments and join the conversation. And if there’s anything you’d like us think about, drop us a line.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to check out the new site and reading our first blog post. We hope you come back soon.
